Meet the McCarthy Nordburg Team – Carrie Roberts!
Q: What are your day-to-day responsibilities at McCarthy Nordburg?
A: My responsibilities include space planning office suites for prospective tenants through “sketch plans” in AutoCad, executing pricing plans to define project scope, participating in conference calls and meetings, the occasional visit to a project site to field verify for drawings, pulling design inspiration images, selecting finishes, lighting and furniture, and lastly, working on detailed construction document sets to bring each project to life. Every day is a little different, but always full of challenges and creativity!
Q: What drew you to McCarthy Nordburg?
A: I was initially really drawn to the breadth and quality of commercial design projects. It has been a goal of mine to cross over to the commercial side of the design world, so finding a perfect company and team to provide me this opportunity was very important. What really drew me in though, is the fun loving and extremely supportive and collaborative atmosphere. Everybody is down to earth and friendly, and we all work together as a team towards the collective success of the company. It feels like a family!
Q: What trend in interior design or interior architecture is most interesting to you?
A: A trend that really interests me is the blurring of boundaries, or lack of boundaries. Gone are the days of closed off rooms and corner offices. With everything trending towards open plans and maximizing mobility, designers must look at spaces in a different way, creating flow and a sense of space without the traditional walls and corridors to guide us.
Q: Which project has been your favorite to work on?
A: I have really enjoyed working on the building refresh at 2777 Camelback (right across the street from the McCarthy Nordburg office). The project scope includes a face lift to the lobby, a complete rehab to a shared conference room on the first floor adjacent to the lobby, refreshed corridors and restrooms, and a vibrant new spec suite on the 3rd floor. It’s given me the opportunity to exercise some challenging and innovative design solutions, with fun finishes and furniture, all the while working with a really excellent team. We have just moved into the construction documents phase, so I am really looking forward to seeing all facets of the project come to life.
Q: What is your after work hobby?
A: When I am not caring for and loving on my small petting zoo (2 dogs, 2 cats, and 1 lizard), you can find me catching up on some crazy Netflix series, and testing my skills in the kitchen. On more active nights, I might visit with friends/family, catch a dance class somewhere, or attend a concert/ live music event if the opportunity and mood strikes.
Q: What is something that people wouldn’t guess about you when they first meet you?
A: I used to train professionally in ballet, from age 3-19. It was my life growing up, and I almost pursued it as a career.
